A aa e ee

11 December 2010 6 Comments

Hi All,

Shouting out aloud.. the sounds of a new language.. Memorizing strange sounds which you hear for the first time in life.. Poems and songs have been written in the past to help kids learn. My 28th poem is a humble attempt in the same direction.

It based on Avvaiyar’s Aathichudi and a kannada song (A aa e ee kannadadha akshara maale). Infact the first half of the poem is a very similar to (translated from)  the kannada song.

Every line starts with A aa E ee U uu.. The vowels of tamil language.. Its a jolly poem written for small kids who are learning a language for the first time.

அ… ஆ… இ.. ஈ..

அ… ஆ… இ.. ஈ..

Poem typed in english

A… aa… e.. ee.. senthamizhin sangeetha maalai..

Amma enbadhdhu.. naavil amarndha mudhal vaarthai..

Aatam paattam kondaatam.. kooda paadamum padiththal munnaetram..

Tamizhai rasikka therindhaal poodhum.. vaazhvil anuthinam arangaetram..

Irruppavaryellam.. illadhavarkku kudukkanum dhaanae..

Eeshwaran solkaLai. yendrum manadhil nenaikkanum neenae..

Uppittavarai.. indrum endrum marakka koodadhu..

Oorukku dhroham nenaiththavarukku nimmadhi kaedeyaadhu..

Endha kaaraiyum yedhuthaalum.. karuththudan vaelai sai..

Aetram erakkam vandhaal enna.. maatrum matrumae maei..

Aeindhil katra ippaaddthaii.. Nee aimbadhil marakkaadhe..

Oruvanukkum oruththi yengindra.. Saththiyam meeradhae..

Oodra raaja.. oodra raaja.. Vidaa muyarchiyudan oodu..

Aushadham idhudhaan unarvudan irukka..kalaiyai rasithu oodu..

Here is the translation.. This is clearly a word play of the language… I will still give the translation.. but the really beauty is in the native language..

Each of these lines are supposed to start with one vowel..

A aa e ee is the garland from beatiful language of tamil..

Amma is the the first word which sits on the tongue..

Play, Sing and enjoyment.. With studies will guarantee progress..

If you learn to appreciate tamil, everyday will overflow with joy..

The ones who have, should help the ones who dont have.

Always remember the verses of the God in your heart..

You always remember the ones who helped you..

There is no peace in life if you think bad for others..

Whatever work you take up.. Do with diligence..

What if there are ups and downs, change is the only constant..

Dont forget these lessons at 50, which you learnt at 5

There is one man for one woman.. Dont cross this truth..

Run raaja Run raaja.. Run raaja run..

This is the only medicine to stay young, appreciate the art and run..

    have one doubt again
if its for kids then i find the mentioning of this line as inappropriate

    Oruvanukkum oruththi yengindra.. Saththiyam meeradhae..

unfortunately, i can’t appreciate your tamil poems… but this one seems wonderful even in its english translation…
i always believe joy of words in a language is so much lost in translation… but even then this one rings so many bells… maybe because i am trying hard to learn french, maybe because i am also passionate about my native language…

keep up the awesome work as you always do 🙂
