Hi All..

Here is my 7th Tamil poem.. Kavidhai Yezhudha Oru Pulavan Thevaya? Do we need an expert to write a poem?

Kavidhai yezhudha oru pulavan thevaya kalai kaadhalaa?
Paamaran yezhudhiya naattu-pura paatu kavidhai allava?
Kavidhai yezhudha tamil paandityam-dhaan thevai-yendral…
Nam naatil-uLLa tamil vaadhyarkaL veetil-ellam oru thiruvaLLuvan irukannume??

Kavidhai yezhudha oru pulavan thevaya kalai kaadhalaa?
Oru kuzhandhai-yin mudhal varthaigaL kavidhai..
Erandaam vaguppil padikkum vaai-padugaL kavidhai..
Adithu.. pidhithu.. padippai mudithu..
Velai thaedal-il virakthi adaindhu..
Vaervai sindhi vaelai saidhapin kaedikkum
Mudhal maasa sambaLamae oru kavidhai..
Adhil vaangiya gadigarathin mani osai.. oru singara kavidhai..

Kavidhai yezhudha oru pulavan thevaya kalai kaadhalaa?
MaNandha manaivi-yai mayakkavaikkum mudhal poigaL oru kavidhai..
Perandha kuzhandhai-yai thoonga vaikkum un mudhal thaalattum oru kavidhai..
Vazhkai-yin poratta nadhiyil yedhir neechal adithu..
Karai saerum munne..
Un thalai saaindhu-vittalum..
Un pizhaigaLai yellam mannithu..
Unnai pugazh-ndhu paadum andha kezhavi-yin oppari-yum.. oru kavidhaiya da..
Un vazhkaiyae oru kavidhai-yada..
Rasanai dhaan adhin magizhchi-yada..

Sindhithu paar..
Kavidhai yezhudha oru pulavan thevayillai..
Oru Rasigan mattumae podhumada kalai kaadhala..

Here is the translation of the poem.. Do you think we need an expert to write poems Kalai Kadhala? Arent the folklore written by the common man a poem in itself? If all that you need is tamil expertise to write a poem.. then every tamil teacher’s household should have a great indian poet like Thiruvalluvar..

Kavidhai yezhudha oru pulavan thevaya kalai kaadhalaa?
Paamaran yezhudhiya naattu-pura paatu kavidhai allava?
Kavidhai yezhudha tamil paandityam-dhaan thevai-yendral…
Nam naatil-uLLa tamil vaadhyarkaL veetil-ellam oru thiruvaLLun irukannume??

Do you think we really  need an expert to write the poem? Think about it.. Isnt the first word from the mouth of a kid a poem in itself.. The tables, which the kid mugs up in 2nd standard… 1 x 1 = 1 1 x 2 = 2.. isnt that a poem? With a lot of difficulty and against all odds.. the child manages to finish its studies.. He tries a lot to get into an employment… After all the toil & hard work.. when he eventually receives his first salary.. isnt that joy a poem in itself? With that first salary, he buys a watch.. Even the inaudible sounds from the ticking of the hour & the minutes hand will sound like a poem to this man..

Kavidhai yezhudha oru pulavan thevaya kalai kaadhalaa?
Oru kuzhandhai-yin mudhal varthaigaL kavidhai..
erandaam vaguppil padikkum vaai-padugaL kavidhai..
Adithu.. pidhithu.. padippai mudithu..
Velai thaedal-il virakthi adaindhu..
Vaervai sindhi vaelai saidhapin kaedikkum
Mudhal maasa sambaLamae oru kavidhai..
Adhil vaangiyai gadigarathin mani osai.. oru singara kavidhai..

Do you think we really need an expert to write a poem? The first lies of the man to soothe his newly wedded wife is a poem.. His first attempt to sing lallobe to put his child to sleep is also a poem.. In the his life.. which is over flowing with everyday battles.. like a river.. he swims against all odds.. Even before he could reach his destination.. he breathes his last… Even in such a sad situation..  the old lady in the town.. sings for you.. forgiving his blemishes.. and praises him at his deathbed by singing a sad song.. which in itself is a poetry..

If you just realize.. your life itself is a poetry.. You must learn to appreciate.. to enjoy this poem of life…

Kavidhai yezhudha oru pulavan thevaya kalai kaadhalaa?
Manandha manaivi-yai mayakkavaikkum mudhal poigaL oru kavidhai..
Perandha kuzhandhai-yai thoonga vaikkum un mudhal thaalattum oru kavidhai..
Vazhkai-yin poratta nadhiyil yedhir neechal adithu..
Karai saerum munne..
Un thalai saaindhu-vittalum..
Un pizhaigaLai yellam mannithu..
Unnai pugazh-ndhu paadum andha kelavi-yin oppariyum.. oru kavidhaiya da..
Un vazhkaiyae oru kavidhai-yada..
Rasanai dhaan adhin magizhchi-yada..

Think about it.. We dont really need an expert to write a poem.. We just need an appreciator to write a poem.. O my dear Kalai Kaadhalaa..

Sindhithu paar..
Kavidhai yezhudha oru pulavan thevayillai..
Oru Rasigan mattumae podhumada kalai kaadhalaa..

Hi This comment is more of a response to the core question in the poem “Kavidhai Yezhudha Oru Pulavan Thevaya?”

Once upon a time during Bhojaraja’s Regime in Ancient India, a south indian poet came to his court and said that “with some effort on our side, and with good karma, one can find a good ruler to rule the kingdom, but it is next to impossible to find a good poet.” This was a challenge in disguise for King Bhoja who was known to maintain high standards of education in his kingdom.
In response to this, Bhoja ordered his Minister to arrange for the poet’s accomodation in the house of the first uneducated person they could find in the capital city. A short while later, the guards brought a poor weaver and presented him in the court…

King Bhoja asked the weaver if he could write a poem.. the weaver answered the following –

    ?????? ????? ??? ??????? ?????
(I make poetry, but its not quite good.)
    ??????? ????? ???, ??????? ????? ?
(If I put some effort, I can manage to make good poetry)
    ????????????????????????
(O King, whose foot rest is adorned with the jewels of the crowns of other kings)
    ?? ????????! ?????? ????? ???? ?
    (Kavayaami – I write poetry, Vayaami – I weave, Yaami – and now I go i.e. – i take leave of you)

Even a weaver could write a poem in King Bhoja’s rule was the answer to the south indian poet’s challenge.

So to answer your question? Kavidhai yezhudha pulavan thevvai illai, pulamaiyum thevai illai – To write poetry, you dont need a poet by your side, nor do you need to be a poet yourself.

This is the weaver’s poem –
    Kaavyam Karomi Nahi Charutharam Karomi
(I make poetry, but its not quite good.)

    Yatnaath Karomi Yadi, Charutharam Karomi
(If I put some effort, I can manage to make good poetry)

Bhoopaala mouli maNi Manditha paad pittha
(O King, whose foot rest is adorned with the jewels of the crowns of other kings)

    Hey Saahasaanka! Kavayaami Vayaami Yaami
    (Kavayaami – I write poetry, Vayaami – I weave, Yaami – and now I go i.e. – i take leave of you)
