Mazhaiyin Magizhchi

1 January 2011 11 Comments

Kalai kaadhalan asks the rain – Why are you so happy? The rain asks him back, if there should be a reason for happiness.. And says, that the smile it brings on people by crying itself is its true happiness! My 31st poem attempts to capture the happiness of rain – both figuratively and philosophically!

================

* * *

The english script is as follows!

Here is the english translation.

Rain’s Joy
==========

O the lightening, who is playing hide and seek..
What is the reason for your electric smile.. ?

O the thunder, who is bursting crackers..
What is the reason for your diwali celebration?

O the wind, who is playing flute…
What is the reason for your musical concert?

O the drizzle, who brings goosebumps in me..
What is the reason for your anklets sound (dance)?

O the rain, O the rain..
What is the reason for your joy?

* * *
(Rain replies)

O the man, who is born to be happy..
Is there reason for happiness..

If you dont have my mercy..
There is no prosperity on your planet..

If I dont cry..
There is no smile on your face..

To see you smiling and prosperous..
And enjoying it is my true happiness..

(Word play here in tamil, will translate to my best possible ability)
Even in such a man, whose heart is not wet (heart which is hard like stone)
To bring wetness to such heart is my happiness (heart is made soft)

On the King’s Palace..
On the Poor’s Hut..
To rain equally is my true happiness..

In a home without happiness &
To a heart which is struggling with sadness…
To flood the rains of joy.. is my true happiness..

    Sundar, your poetry writing, particularly sentence structuring has improved by leaps and bounds. Good show! :) As they say – Genius isnt Genetic, It is engineered to conscious choices and daily practice! – I can see the evolving genius here :)

    Hi chitappa, I didnt understand the onliner.. can you please explain.. :)

    Hai Sundar,

    It means that the rain is weaving the greenary and rain is plaiting it, while weaving the threads are interwoven here it means the same hope you liked it. Poetry is the best form of being highly imaginative and once you are stuck with it difficult to come out of it, a very good hobby.
    Sriram.
