NIT Trichy Speaks Up

31 December 2007 38 Comments

Every year, around 600 – 700 students come to me around august – sept.
Most of these folks are toppers from various states. These students
come with a determination in their eyes… With an air of arrogance ofcourse! πŸ™‚
Each one has so many unique characteristics, each one so different from the other. Sometimes, I think I have seen all kinds of students. But come aug-sept, I still see so many types of students..

I stay calm and listen to each and every one’s “intro”.. The intro given to seniors.. the first lesson in “Ragging” Book.. Intially, I enjoy the introduction given by the student.. Even I want to know each and every one of them.. πŸ™‚ But as each chapter of the “Ragging” book unfurls, I stand there helplessly. I see students crying, but I cant do anything.. I just cant do anything.. πŸ™

The students go back to hostel and curse me! They hate me! They want to get back home many a times and run away from seniors.. But they cant! But every cloud has a silver lining.. These 600 – 700 folks get to know each other in the “Agate Jail”..
Sometimes, they build such a bond, which doesnt break for life..

Time flies with cycle tests and exams.. And they hate them all, CEESAT in particular.. time flies faster.. and these kids are going to be treated as grown ups soon.. you know what I am talking about.. About the “Freshies”.. Here seniors treat the juniors and finally accept them as a part of the “seniors” community.

Time continues to fly as these guys finish semesters after semesters.. They finish the 3rd and 4th..
By now almost all the girls in the college are “Settled!”… Its probably the best time of a students life.. they propose behind the bushes thinking that nobody is seeing them.. They forget that I am there and observing every single action of every single student who comes to me.. πŸ™‚

Life proceeds in another dimension.. most of them would have picked up smoking, drinking and some probably even doping πŸ™‚ Again.. I see all the gangs going “OUT”.. I have seen it all.. this is not the first time it is happening.. πŸ™‚

More time flies, this time even faster.. Students are forced to sit in the labs in the name of projects.. listen to heavy GYAN from seniors in the name of Campus training.. Lots of things to learn.. But no time.. :-). Some where, some how, these people start loving me.. Yes!! These are the same set of ppl who hated me a couple of years back.. Well!! I didnt feel bad when they hated me. I have seen so many batches flying past me.. I know that these guys will love me.. soon.. πŸ™‚

The placement season happens.. Most of these guys will get placed in very good companies.. This the period of celebration for most.. disappointment for some.. hope for many… Most of these ppl will look back and wonder if they have learnt anything over the past 3 years.. But they all slog on the day before the recuitment and some how.. make it.. Yes!! These are real assholes, with a lot of potential.. just that they dont use it! Its during this campus season, you can see the best of these students.. Somehow, they make it!
Some of the guys go ahead and study, most of them join these companies..

Its almost always a happy ending at the end of this season.. They dance, they drink.. they go merry!! But they forget this silent observer.. πŸ™‚

All good things have to end! And the 4 year roller coaster ride is approaching its finishing point!! These students realize it and go for various treats!! πŸ™‚ Spend more time with friends.. promising to keep in touch with them for life!! πŸ™‚ I just continue to laugh.. because this is not the first time I am seeing this promise… But certainly, it will be the first time if they keep up the promise..

The senti season will result in an all time “high”.. But as I said earlier, All good things end.. These folks accept the sad reality and move on the lead a successful life.. By now, they just cant forget me!! They love me so much that they feel like coming back to me!! But again, they cant come back that easily πŸ™‚

I am sure as you read this, even you are yearning to see me!!

I am your very own “NIT Trichy”..

Students come and students go.. The clock tower on me will continue to tick..

I am like your mother.. I will accept you anytime you come.. In any form you come!! I will be proud of you the way you are!!

After all I am your mother, yes, your “Alma Mater!!”

You will find these in my blog: Coffee, Fun, Carnatic Music, Mridangam, Google, Random thoughts, Business ideas, Start ups, Videos, Blogposts, Cricket, India, Philosophy, Real life Experience.. The list goes on…..
