I just saw the squad announced for the ODIs at crickinfo. I am really really surprised by the fact that Ganguly is dropped! I think this is utter non sense.

Infact, I am not a big fan of dada. Infact, I dont like dada at all. But think, this is gross injustice. He is fine form and he shouldnt be dropped now!

Some of the reasons given by dropping dada is as follows,

1. Ganguly’s fielding is poor.
I fully agree with this. I hate to see dada run behind the ball. But I dont think matches just be won by fielders alone. Some one who replaces dada should score good runs also.

2. Give more chances for youngsters.
Australia is not a place to try youngsters. Give chances for them in 20 20 matches. You just cant throw these guys into a ODI series. If you see the test series, juniors like dhoni, yuvraj, wasim jaffer (in terms of number of matches) have not contributed with the bat significantly. It is only sachin, saurav, dravid and laxman who have scored here. Infact, I would have retained atleast laxman for this series. He plays brilliantly against the aussies.

3. Dhoni wanted youngsters!
This is the most annoying reason given. I only hope that this is a rumour. I dont think he has the clout to throw away someone like ganguly for “fielding”. Utter nonsense. Dhoni is not scoring runs himself. Now he is dropping dada who is in great nick.

Anyways, the idiosyncrasies of indian selection continues,
These are certainly a bunch of fools headed by a joker,

I only hope dada comes back again. I really like his pride in everything he does.

I think Ganguly’s exclusion is justified..he is not a one day player any more..his recent form in tests is bad and there is no chance that he will do well in australia..

    @ jerry,

I dont think so jerry. I think he is in good form. He has been scoring quite well in all the matches (except perth). He can do well in australia.

  • Jerry said:

Maybe.. but i dont like his attitude.. its very annoying.. i think somebody like Rohit Sharma should be given a chance..

  • Sundar Rajan G S said:

hmm.. But I agree rohit sharma should be given a chance.. But not in australia, where youngster (batsman) havent done much there.

So, i certainly would like to retain ganguly in the team.

Anyways, Its just a personal opinion. I am quite sure ganguly will make a comeback

In his last nine ties at home, five against Australia and four against Pakistan, Ganguly has notched up only 216 runs with 86 as his top score and his average of 27 is a clear indication that there had been a steep decline in his form, and given his recent form in Tests, i think its best to leave him out. With regard to Rohit Sharma, i think its best that he plays now, he is the next up-coming star for India.

    hey jerry,

that was quite a good statistic. But you must not just consider the odi scores. If you see his average in this trip, it think it is quite high.

The present form will tell. Anyways, there is a match in adilaide. So, we will knw if the decision is correct or not in the next test πŸ™‚

Actually, tests and ODI’s are completely different scenarios. He will perform pathetically in ODI’s am sure :). Its time for him to retire gracefully πŸ™‚
