Hi All..

This is my 19th tamil poem.. This is based on a ritual which is performed in several south indian weddings.. A lot of needless research has gone into the poem

On a serious note

The bride and the groom are made to sit on a swing… and all the senior ladies (Sumangalis) of the family sing songs which are called “Laalee”s as they swing..

This seemingly meaningless ritual has a very profound meaning.. The swing (oonjal) represents the family life… (unlike the life of bachelor or Bramhacharya) The chains of the swings reminds the couple of their cosmic link to God.. The swing itself is moving.. It represents the ups and the downs in the world.. And the couples ride the swing happily.. together.. in a stable way.. In the process.. they mutually make a promise “I shall not leave you under any circumstance.. We will ride whatever difficulty that comes our way.. together with the help of God.. ”

So here we go.. My poem.. Oonjal AadinaaL.. describing the Oonjal ceremony of Kalai Azhagi.. The women who is an artistic beauty!!

The Sumangalis sang.. The relatives danced..
She played in the swing holding the Manmadhan’s hand..
Manmadhan is the Cupid equivalent of Indian mythology..
