Welcome, IIM Bangalore!

28 June 2008 12 Comments

Well!! I am in IIM Bangalore hostel.. This is going to be my new home for the next 2 years..

I am having a mixed feeling out here..
I am happy that I am going to be student again @ a very prestigious college..
But at the same time, I am sure to miss all the great fun that I had @ home for the past 2 years..
Well! There are always tradeoffs.. And as always, I am prepared to take them on!!

The journey to this place has been a really really thrilling one..
For a lot of people around me, it looked pretty *obvious* that I would get into IIM Bangalore..
Ha Ha.. *Obvious* is the last word to use in this roller coaster ride.. which I experienced in the last one year..
Anyways.. Thanks a lot for your faith in my abilities.. It gave me a lot of confidence, which probably made the difference..

This apparently smooth journey.. began last March.. when I joined TIME tution.. The place where I met some really cool people.. Made a few good friends like Mahesh, who is in IIM C now.. I also met a senior by name Vijay, who constantly helped me in my preparation process.. Most importantly, I met this amazingly motivating person by name Prem Ravi Kumar.. Prem constantly kept pushing me to give my maximum.. Thank you prem for your motivation and support..

TIME gave us Mock CAT papers every Sunday.. And trust me.. they set killer papers.. Every Sunday, I used to get mothered in the paper.. Every Sunday, I used to get slapped on my face.. I fell down.. I felt humbled by sheer competition.. But the secret is persistence.. the secret is having an ability to stand up after you fall.. And the secret to give your best and leave the rest to God! I used to perform really well.. once in a while :-), which gave me enough confidence for cracking CAT..

Well, the D-Day was finally there! CAT 2007 was deceptively simple in its appearance.. I performed really well in both quants and verbal.. It so happened that these sections were quite difficult.. But screwed up big time in Data Interpretation.. I screwed up to such an extent that I got only 80.6%ile.. I did manage to get calls.. πŸ™‚

But the biggest turning point in the CAT exam was the last 2 minutes in the 3.5 hours paper.. Yes!! the last two minutes was deadly crucial.. I attempted verbal first, DI next and quants last.. Something told me to go back to DI for the last 2 minutes.. I have never done this in my mocks.. But by gods grace, I did that.. I took a chance with a problem set in DI.. I did some *educated guesses* for 3 questions.. Two were right.. I got 7 marks of my 32 in DI.. πŸ™‚ And trust me.. they were crucial..

Then came the Group Discussion/Personal Interview training @ TIME.. Met more people.. made more friends.. I had around 3-4 mock interviews and lots and lots of Mock GDs.. It was a lot of fun.. Although I have given some really really stupid answers in my Personal Interviews.. πŸ™‚ Lots of people helped me in writing my statement of purpose.. And I would like to thank Sandeep B N, Ankit Agarwal, Shruti George, Shyam Sunder, Madhur Deep and others.. My SOP suddenly changed 3 days before submission.. πŸ™‚ And a special thanks to Shruti, who really helped me a lot in the last minute.. Ofcourse, the interviews went off really well..

Finally, the results were due on April 11th.. But got postponed due to quota issues.. Man.. what a tense period it was.. There will be rumours that “the results are expected anytime today..” And that whole day.. you just cant do anything.. It was really really agonizing to sit for 20 days.. with results expected *any time soon*.. The results were finally out on May 1st.. And I got admission from IIM Bangalore..
After that.. there were lots of treats.. lots of fun.. I resigned from the coveted GOOGLE on May 31st..

I had a nice 3 weeks off.. Visited lots of temples in South India.. Spent a lot of time @ home.. watched movies.. watched IPL.. It was all fun..

And now.. Here I am.. All set to open a new chapter in my life!! I am sure it is going to be as good as, may be even better than my NIT Trichy Experience..

Welcome IIM Bangalore!!

More on this chapter, as Life unfurls @ IIM B.. πŸ™‚
